Rely On The Government For Your Nutrition Information?
Folks, most of us have been brainwashed by the triplet of big gov, big pharma, and big ag (including big fast food) into believing that we can have our cake and eat it too! Well, you can’t. There are penalties for eating too much cake and they are not always the obvious ones either.
Just imagine if 10% of the people who smoked a cigarette died in the 3 days after their first cigarette.
How many people would smoke?
I know I would never have started. And would we let it be legal? A cigarette is not the only product that, if used as directed, will kill you. Everyone thought margarine was good for us back in the sixties and seventies. We beat up butter and replaced it with a chemical product that resembles plastic.
Healthy choices at fast food restaurants? NOT! Between the food handling procedures and the big agriculture products eating at any Fast Food place is potentially hazardous to your health both long and short term. Buy your own food and eat it at home.
Soy is good for you. NOT! Soy milk is a waste product that big ag has marketed you into believing is good for you. And the potential for hormonal disruption especially for men is too great. If you must eat soy and you really don’t, then eat the fermented products like tempeh.
Milk provides calcium. NOT! Pasteurized and homogenized milk, even with calcium added, has little to no nutritional value except to provide lactose (a sugar) and casein, an inflammatory agent in the protein. Drink only raw organic milk for health. Better yet…skip the milk in favor of fermented dairy if you must (kefir and yogurt). Goat milk is better than cow too.
The food pyramid is the way to eat. ABSOLUTELY NOT! Just look around you…there is an epidemic of obesity and diabetes in this country. And every country across the globe that adopts our style of eating gets fatter as well. The food pyramid was originally designed to have limited grain consumption, not the current 6-11 servings daily. Guess what…grains are not good for you. They are high glycemic, cause insulin spikes (accelerating weight gain) and create inflammation and addiction to sugar. Bad, very bad.
Eat vegetables, lots of vegetables—raw, steamed, roasted, or grilled, some fruit, seeds and nuts (pumpkin, sunflower, almonds, walnuts etc.), meat from organic natural sources, organic, free range and local eggs (including the yolks), healthy fat—avocado, olive, butter, coconut, nut butters and drink water. Simple, really, but not terribly easy for many people. Aim for about 80% of your food consumption like this and you will be on your way to optimum health and fitness.

I like the premise of the article however you are lacking in support. Common knowledge is hardly common nor knowledge. Yes, I have heard about many of the points…but you must provide evidence supporting the points. Show me the study about soy milk and its estigine imbalance findings. How about where the 80% number? What consists of the remaining 20%? Not busting your balls but without support the article doesn’t have as much weight as it really should.

What are your feelings of Sprouted grains?
I consume Ezekiel bread (and occasional their cereal).
My diet is mainly vegan (I guess I cannot say that since I consume occasional fish/eggs) consisting of soaked/sprouted legumes, unlimited fruits & veggies, nuts/seeds, and occasional free range eggs/fish. (I supplement with sprouted brown rice protein as well)
I eat massive amounts of food, eat between 6-10 servings of grains a day (Ezekiel bread/soaked oat groats), and stay extremely lean and feel amazing daily.
I know diets/foods can be very personalized and yes, if it works keep doing it, but I see your paleo approach and figured I would see what you have to say about sprouted/soaked grains and/or legumes.
WONDERFUL post! You really just exposed the tip, and I mean TIP of the iceberg. I myself follow a modified Paleo (http://paleodiet.com/) which I took the time, researched, and made up according to my CULTURAL Eating, Personal taste/palate, and AFFORDABILITY. So, I do occasionally eat things outside the Paleo diet, but I’m a believer in 90-10. 90% of the time, I’m spot on with my diet. 10% of the time, I’m drinking a beer, eating a cookie, or having mashed potatoes. The problem: I get carb hang-overs…no joke.
America! Wake up. Men! Stop being feminized. Women! Stop comparing yourselves to the 3% NOT VERY SEXY females you see in magazines (Cave men would have NOT chosen these females to start a family with, and I myself would not either).

I don’t eat bread, but would like to, especially a sandwich (almond butter, fish, etc.). I’ve been wanting to try Ezekiel Bread, mainly because of preparation (soaking, etc.).

OK…here’s the problem…400 words or so is too short to give you a scholarly paper on nutrition…I would point you to the following:

His stuff is very well researched and annotated.

There are many many more. This is just the tip of the iceberg.

BOTTOM LINE: Do your own research (I don’t mean this in the way it sounds)!!!! It is all out there for the reading. Don’t believe everything I or anyone else says! I do not know everything.
BOTTOM LINE #2: the 80/20 or 90/10 rule means all this stuff is a guideline. I eat primal/paleo 90/95% of the time BUT I don’t beat myself up if I have a bagel or pizza and beer once in a while. It may be more damaging to beat myself up for eating something than actually eating it! ENJOY YOUR FOOD. EAT IT WITH PEOPLE YOU LOVE. EAT FOOD CLOSE TO THE GROUND THAT IS RECOGNIZABLE AND HAS MINIMAL PROCESSING.
OK one more!…I love Ezekiel bread too. And if I eat grain, sprouted grain is probably better than the other. I just don’t eat them very often. I get carb hangovers too. That is why I don’t like to eat them much any more. A snack is an avocado not a bag of doritos! It is just a different lifestyle. It works for me. Find what works for you.
Last one…YES obese people eat the food pyramid big time…11 servings of grain? Pasta, rice, pizza, on and on…all carb all sugar and then throw in a diet soda just to really screw things up! Add in some crappy chemical based fats, no fruits or veggies, some processed chemicalized meats, SUPER SIZE everything and we will all weigh 300 pounds before long. Sorry…it a pet peeve.

Hmm in my field of study, which encompasses Tnation articles written by John Berardi, mostly, the dangers of soy are overrated. And as for milk, drinking it won’t kill you! I think what you’re talking about is eating soy products with milk for something like every meal of the day, brecause that would be gross overconsumption and would definitely cause harm to the body in the form of oestrogen and other kinds of hormonal action. But consumption of non-GMO soy products is in fact beneficial!
It’s just like saying that eating too much chicken definitely stresses your liver and bodily functions due to the high sodium and fat intake. But that only comes with only eating chicken every meal! I feel that soy in moderate amounts definitely is healthy. Maybe limit it to 20-25 grammes of soy protein in a day. But all in all, I think it’s a fantastic discussion! I’m in agreement with you on the fast food.
Can you find non-GMO soy anymore?!
